AURORA, Colo. Bed bugs are creating an ongoing nuisance for tenants at a northwest Aurora apartment building as landlords across the country find it difficult to properly exterminate the pests. Studies from this year indicate bed bugs are becoming more resistant to pesticides.

When I moved here, my son and I enjoyed it, Stapleton Apartments tenant Max Vaughns said. We [were] having fun.

But over the last three months, Vaughns said he has spent some nights in his truck to get away from bed bugs. Pictures provided to FOX31 show what Vaughns claims is evidence of bed bug bites and his young sons allergic reaction.

Written notice of entry into Vaughns apartment at 2201 Dayton Street explains pest control crews treated the apartment on more than one occasion. Each time, Vaughns said, nothing was resolved.

Exterminators told FOX31 killing the bugs is a difficult job. Roughly 3,500 homes are treated for bed bugs in the Denver area every year, according to exterminators.

Tenants at Stapleton Apartments said management has admitted that Vaughns is not alone.

Vaughns, upset the issue hasnt been resolved, said he has stopped paying rent and is now facing eviction. He plans to be out of his unit within one week. Meanwhile, hes hoping this story will serve as a warning for anyone searching for an apartment.

I just want to make sure that others are aware of whats going on, Vaughns explained.

FOX31 called apartment management on Sunday and is still waiting for comment.

How to get rid of Bed Bugs. – Fox Weekly

Post date: July 31st, 2017

For someone who has not dealt with the nuisance of a bedbug infestation on household furniture, the shudder of those who have might seem extreme. The visceral reaction to the smell of a squashed bed bug and the itch of being bitten is all too real for those who have had such experiences. The annoying aspect of a bedbug infestation is their resilience. These little bugs are hardy and even harder to kill.In a span of 37 days on the average, bedbugs go from eggs to adulthood. From the beginning of their life, bedbug nymphs are ready for a blood meal. Bedbugs survive by ingesting the blood of their host (bloody little vampires).

They can survive on the ingested blood for months without needing a refill (I wonder the kind of engine that powers them). And they dont discriminate humans, cats, dogs- all are fair game. What more, their life cycle is 10 months to a year (really uncommon for critters in the insect kingdom) but they are aggressively active when it comes to mating. The typical female bedbug can lay hundreds of eggs in her life span. Now imagine how hard it is to get rid of bugs that breed that fast irrespective of whether they starve or not.

Normal insecticides dont work well on bedbugs, partly due to where they like to hang out in the seams of the mattress, folds of furniture materials and clothing. Basically, all nook and crannies where there is a high probability of coming into contact with human skin, too tight for casual inspection and dark. However, we would not leave you hanging as to how to get rid of these nasty little buggers.

Our solution is a homemade brew that can percolate (while you sip your coffee) into their hideouts talk about taking the fight to them. The chemicals needed are things you already use in the kitchen and around the house, hence it is inexpensive.

You will need:

Then follow the following procedure. No need for goggles. There are no explosions involved.

Note: If you dont have a teacup or you need a larger/ smaller quantity then you can use any container for the measurement. The important bit is to use the same proportional measurement for all the components.Pour the resulting mixture into a spraying container (you have just taken your first step as an industrial chemist. Congrats!). Head over to the infested furniture and spray the edges and folds (higher chance of finding them there). Then spray the rest of the furniture. Repeat the spraying in two days or three days to be sure you got them all.

A Vernon family discovered bed bugs in their North Vancouver hotel room, after they had slept there.

A Vernon couple's Vancouver vacation turned into a creepy crawly nightmare last week.

Kerrie and Callum Stewart drove all day on June 26 to North Vancouver, pulling into the North Vancouver Comfort Inn and Suites at about 9 p.m. They had travelled to the coast to visit their daughter, who was on a break from studying in Australia.

Kerrie picked up their daughter, and the three of them went straight to bed. Their daughter woke up itchy.

She realized this could be bed bugs, because she's had them before, and they just send you into a panic," Kerrie told CTV News.

Upon further inspection, their fears were confirmed.

"There was a lot of the black dot excrements and big bed bugs and eggs and it was horrifying," Kerrie said. "There were dozens and dozens of bed bugs that you could see, and you never usually see a bed bug."

Management at the hotel offered to upgrade their room, and not charge them for their first night.

The family asked the manager of the hotel for $1,000 to replace items that had become infested, but management refused. The hotel says they offered to have the family's clothes dry cleaned.

Kerrie took to social media, posting pictures and their story on her Facebook page. The post was shared over 16,000 times, and received over 2,000 comments.

The pictures show red sores all over the bodies of all three members of the family.

When CTV News contacted the hotel, management issued a statement sayingbed bug infestations are not completely preventable, but we want to express our sincere regret for the disappointment this family experienced during their stay with us."

One of the most important parts of a holiday is choosing our accomodations properly. After a day of fun filled leisure activities, we surely want to come back to a relaxing and comfortable bed.

Unfortunately for Wai Shean Chau, the exact opposite happened to her. Wai Shean had shared her rather unsavory experience, when her hotel room's whole ceiling fell down while she was on holiday recently.

According to her Facebook posting, she booked a three-room water chalet, but misfortune fell upon her when one of the room's ceiling suddenly collapsed.

In the pictures shared by Wai Shean, it appears that quite a big chunk of the ceiling had simply given way, and it created a flood in one of the rooms.

She even shared a video of the mess it left behind. Instead of a luxury room, it looked more like a construction site now.

And to make make matters worst, Wai Shean complained that he hotel's management were rather unfriendly although what happened was not within her control, and the replacement room had left much to be desired.

"The room was overall worn out. Woke up the next morning with red spots on face, hand and feet! I didn't think much of it but the spots swell up through the day and it got so itchy. Those were horrible bed bug bites! Im not sure if it was from the bed or the blanket," said Wai Shean shared her woes in her Facebook posting.

And this all happened at Avillion Port Dickson, a five star resort, which is simply unacceptable, as Wai Shen had openly named the hotel in question in her FB post.

Let's hope that Wai Shean recovers from her nightmarish holiday, and receives proper compensation from the hotel for her ruined holiday.
